So, I got the beta code by e-mail, straight from the company. This would be the first beta invitation. But this would be my third beta participation. The first would be Metal Gear Online, the second would be
SOCOM Confrontation.
So, Carlos, how's 20/60 players on the same map? Its a surprise. There was no lag, no glitch, at least from what I played. Sure, it takes a while to find a game. But once you're in, you can start playing like a chimra or a soldier. At the same time, the gameplay feels frantic, intense, more on that later. There's not a moment that the online multiplayer gameplay seem boring, unless you're starting the match, or respawning.
Controls:
Let me make one thing clear: You will have to learn the control configuration once you start R2. The game doesn't really play the same way as the original Resistance: Fall of Man game. The controls feels a whole lot different from resistance from what I played. The controls have gotten its own overhaul, so don't expect the same controller config when you play.
The controls feel a whole lot easier to pick up and play, and the developers cranked up the sensitivity level of the turn movement.
Gameplay:
To expand on what I said before: The gameplay is frantic and intense. The levels are twice the size of
ANY FPS title that offers multiplayer online gaming. Some levels go as far as offering "boosts" to skyscrapers' rooftops. Anyone can be a sniper at any time, so be on the lookout. Some areas are perfect for crossfire battles, and I have been involved in some of those intense crossfires, it feels like you're in a warzone. It technically is, but the game puts you into those kinds of confrontation. And it feels good. You can even pull off killing sprees much like Unreal Tournament 3 or kill streaks like Call of Duty 4. There are a lot of places to hide, and to shoot, to explore.
But I am sad to know that there isn't a sprint button or pressure sensitive movement; it takes a long time to get from point A, to point B. Which makes Capture The Flag games harder. However, I do like and admire the new "distance indicator" that you are presented with when you play CTF games.
Graphics:
There was a lot of great special effects in Resistance: Fall of man. But Resistance 2 builds on that, and then some more. Larger levels, more objects, more detail, and beautifully textured models. It is a very crisp game, that
doesn't lag.
After playing Resistance a while ago, I had no interest in buying Resistance 2, because the game turned me off a few times. So, once I played R2, I told myself "I want the game." It has a ranking system similar to COD4, but a bit different from what I read of it.
