Lost Planet started off on the wrong foot with critics, but fans either hated it, or loved it. Therefore, Lost Planet got a sequel, and it was playable at E3. Lost Planet has the potential to be among the franchises in Capcom's portfolio, and they continue to stick to their guns with a sequel. And rightfully so, they've addressed most of the problems seen with the first one.
Graphics & Gameplay: One of the problems people had with Lost Planet was that the game's graphics was not good, not even close to well-recieved, however, critics were okay with the graphics, in fact, they kinda liked it. The constant full-screen tearing and motion blur were some of the things that turned people off. Lost Planet 2 addresses these problems and takes it to a whole new level because the bosses in the game are huge, and they're detailed. You'll be amazed. Like DMC4, heat sensitive locations look really detailed (in DMC, some places are blurry, but LP2 has more detail, making it look more realistic). The best part of the game is, it packs more attention to detail than most games on the market; we were demo'ed into this canyon, yet, its got a lot of places for us to roam into. For example, there's this little cave that you can hide into (you're supposed to shoot this little monster's legs - six in all - and get this, capcom made it subtle telling you to shoot at the legs), there's water that you can roam into (careful, don't go deep, or you'll drown and not in a good way, you're committing a suicide - I'm assuming there's a suit for this in later levels), there are tanks to re-fill, you can ride the robot (hanging on it seems cool so far, because if a player is already inside, you can hang onto it, and shoot at your desired destination), and finally, if you get eaten; you're in for a surprise. There's another level inside of the monster. I was eaten expecting to die, but no, I inflirated into the organs of the monster - this reminds me of playing DMC all over again; I felt like I was home. Haha. You're supposed to shoot the heart that's in front of you, then you're surrounded by enemies. Capcom sure know how to make a game. That was genius. One of the best level designs I've seen in a while. Controls & Replay Value: The reason why I didn't buy Lost Planet was because there wasn't this "replay value" pull. I liked the game when I played it in the Capcom booth at GameSpot's After Hours event. This was fixed with LP2; if you've been reading up until this point, you'd know why. The other reason why LP2 has a pull, is because of the controls. It feels 'right' this time around. Aiming is faster, tighter, and more precise because you've got yourself a new crosshair. Moving around is better, too - if you want to shoot and run at the same time, you can. Throw the bomb, because its better this time around - no tearing this time around. Well, not too much, anyway. Since you know why the game is addictive, you know why the replay value is quite high. Carlos' Verdict: The graphics are a step up from LP1, the controls are tight, it feels right, while it takes a little time getting used to, it picks up really fast, and you're going to love every single second of it. The high replay value is something you should not ignore, because the game takes cues from other games, and combine everything into one single game without sacrificing graphics, framerate, gameplay, or any other things in order for the player to be immersed into knowing more.
